Strange OpenGL in CAD

I use the program ArchiCad which includes some fairly basic OpenGL features.
After I upgraded my vidcard from a GeForce4 4200 to a Radeon 9800 I get some
very strange behaviour when Archicad tries to use OpenGL.
Archicad 8 has an option to use OGL acceleration in 2D (Options/
Preferences/ 2D Redraw Options/ Optimize drawing method for high performance
display card (use OpenGL)), and if it is enabled when Archicad starts, 2D
viewports are "invisible"... nothing can be seen until you move the
scrollbar, when the drawing flashes on & off quickly, while the scrollbar is
being moved.
3D viewports remain visible, but when the model is moved I can hear a
buzzing from my speakers.

Strangely, 2D OGL seemed to work immediately after i installed new drivers,
but the problem returned after I played an OGL game (RtCW). I tried to reset
all OGL settings to default in Display Settings, but the problem remained.

Does anyone have an idea as to what might be happening & how i might fix it?
Please don't ssuggest going back to the GF4 card LOL

It could be this: Radeon's don't actually have a OGL driver, instead they
have a wrapper that "translates" OGL insturctions to DX instructions. You
could try installing FreGL driver's instead of Catalyst, that should help.

Allso I'll ask my frend. He uses ArchiCAD (I use AutoCAD) and has a Radeon,
allthough he has a 8500.

Allso, do you know how to enable hardware acceleration in AutoCAD when
using 2D wirefram mode?

Thanks for the info... I think I will try using the FireGL driver... to use
it I need to install RivaTuner. I think...?

I don't use AutoCAD so sorry, I can't help you.

I forgot to ask... do you know if there is a performance penalty in DirectX
using FireGL drivers? or even if DirectX is supported?

If your using proffesional programs that use the DX interface, than there
is no slowdown. I read somwhere that games don't run as fast with FireGL
drivers as they did with Caralyst (or was this for the GeForce->Quadro
mod).

Anyway, try searching for some reviews about "game" cards using
"proffesional" drivers. I knew some, but I forgot the URLs.

I really don't know. I think you have to "trick" the drivers when the
installation starts into thinking that you have a FireGL crad (which is
actually a Radeon with a different BIOS).

I talked to my friend he uses ArchiCAD 8 and he sais that in ArchiCAD 8
there is no setting for using OGL. So
