Strange noise coming from my computer

I know this is off topic but I scan this group all the time and found it to
be helpful through the years.

I am getting some type of feedback noise coming through my speakers whenever
the mouse goes over a link, the hard drive is accessed, I move a or drag
objects around on the screen. The noise is not loud but is noticeable and
it irritates me. Its weird - I haven't made any changes to the system lately
except I replaced the DVD-ROM with a DVD-RW drive a few weeks ago. I just
started getting this noise (almost a buzzing sound) when I navigate on the
screen.

Any ideas ... Thanks in advance

Hi, see my response in another newsgroup.

If you are going to post to multiple groups, it's usually better to
cross-post.

Where's the response? I am having the same problem.

Hmm.... I guess thats why it's best to cross post :)

"I've had similar problems - it seems there is some kind of interaction
between various components with the end result being that you end up with
this noise. My problem was with the CD-Audio cable, which I promptly
removed, and enabled digital audio on the drive... one less thing to pick up
interference... this would be consistent, since you may have moved the cable
in the vicinity of say, a fan or something.

It might help to tell us which motherboard and chipset you are using, and
whether your audio is onboard and what it is. Also, try muting various
inputs until it goes away (if at all) and let us know which one(s) are
linked with the noise."
