Strange Marks Appearing

A little while ago four grey colored, right angles appeared under the page
margins, one at the top, one at the bottom, on both sides of the document. I
can't figure out how to make them dissapear.

I ASSUME you are using 2007 (so kind of you to say so!) they are called
¨Crop Marks¨ for future reference and are common in Artwork preparation
(that aside)

You can go to Office Button
Word Options
Advanced
scroll down to ¨Show Document Content¨
Uncheck ¨Show Crop Marks¨
