My WIN XP PC has a strange problem-
For a few days when I tried to boot, it gave me the error that
windows\system32\drivers\isapnp.sys is corrupt or missing
I also saw a quick, odd message that said
serial ch0 master:no device
serial ch1 master:no device
I looked for a solution on the net including the MS website, which came
up with this-
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315311
It, and other web sites, had insructions to enter Repair Counsel and
rename/reinstall the file from the windows disk by typing
ren c:\windows\system32\drivers\isapnp.sys isapnp.old, and then doing
an expand from the Windows disk. But alas, after typing
in the correct commands, it turned up with an "Access Denied" message.
Won't boot in safemode, won't boot in last known config, or any mode
for that matter, it just comes to the same error.
I took the HD out and put it in another working PC to see what I could
do with it there. It found the drive, but I could not access it. It
would only say "Drive E is not formatted, Would You like to format it
now?".
I tried a windows repair, and later a windows reinstall. In either
case, the screen that says FORMATTING where it has the 0-100% bar, it
would just stop. Left it for 10 minutes and it hadn't started, still at
0%. So I put another HD in and tried the same thing. Still nothing. I'm
starting to susspect there's some other hard ware issue, since no HD in
this case will allow windows to install. What am I missing, what shoudl
I be checking for?
I also noticed after removing the first HD, even after being on for
only a few minutes, it was extremely hot. I don't know if this is
normal or not, but it didn't seem normal from what I remember in my
experience.
