I have a WIN2K Server SP4 running SQL2000. I just discovered a strange folder
and suspect it might be a virus even though Symantec Corp 9.0 doesn't detect
one. The foder is: F:\ed09ed74e97f832a3d48431ffb19. Inside is a folder called
download and inside that is a file called: dao360.dll._p I have searched and
can't find any reference to the folder and can only find reference to the
file if I don't add the ._p Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas?
Thanks

Nope. Its the remnants of a HotFix or patch. Maybe even Win2k SP4.

That is most likely from an MS update of some sort. During the install of a
service pack, for example, a directory with some odd name like that will be
created on a local drive with a good deal of free space. These folders are
typically cleaned up, but if it couldn't be deleted for some reason at the
time, it'll remain. It's happened to me on a machine or two as well. Ah,
here, if it makes you feel any better, this is the name of the folder that
was never deleted on a W2K member server here where I work.

p.s. Assuming that you're not posting this at the exact moment that you
happen to be installing a service pack, it's safe to delete that folder.

| So i assume it is okay to just delete it and go on with my life?

Ray you've changed your sig. Congrats on the appointment.

I haven't seen you post in a while. Glad to see you're still around :-)

Thanks Dave. :] I spend most of my newsgroup time in the ASP groups, but I
like to wander into here when I can't concentrate on whatever it is that I'm
supposed to be working on.
