Strange characters in powerpoint

Hi,

I have this weird problem that only occurs in powerpoint. When i press the
cursor keys when entering text i get characters appearing rather than the
cursor moving.

when i press the following keys this is what i get:-

left cursor - %
right cursor - ,
down cursor - (
up cursor - &

This only happens in powerpoint, all other programs are fine. The problem is
in both powerpoint 97 and powerpoint 2003.

Has anyone seen this before?

Do you have any other programs running? ISTR I read about something similar
to this, and it was because a game had been minimized in the taskbar, but
was still actually running in the background.
