Strange Characters in Memo Field in Report

G

Guest

My employer has made a report comes from a query that links to almost every
table in his database. Besides being a hellaciously slow, the last four memo
fields return a box and a quotation mark. Now, I saw the posts about the
Chinese characters, and tried setting those fields to group ascending, but
that didn't help...and these look more like ASCII characters, not Chinese
(but then...I don't know Chinese).

Any ideas? I am my employers last hope...which means you are my last hope.
Thanks!

I've seen those characters before. They are
representations of line feeds or carriage returns in the
text.

Chances are that you're using a query that either uses the memo field as a
sorting field and/or as a group by field. Unicode interpretation can lead to
strange characters.

Tell us more details about the query and its fields.

To tell you the truth, I don't know exactly what it's supposed to do, except
that it extracts budget, forecasting, and actual costs from about half a
dozen different tables and queries. My boss created it in design view, and
it is a twenty-something line monster. I don't think it would help to print
it here.

You are right- it does use grouping...and thanks to Access, grouping applies
to all fields, including the memo fields. Is there any way to counter this?

Thanks.
