strange boot pattern

Hi,

Over the last few weeks I am witnessing a strange boot pattern for my Toshiba laptop (2300MHz & 512MB). When I boot the computer, after few seconds, the desktop screen along with all the icons appear as normal, but if the select any icon and start a program, nothing happens for the next minute or so. I guess, the computer has not booted properly, but it still shows the complete desktop. This is further substantiated by the fact after showing the complete desktop for more than a min, with background & icons, the computer then plays the regular boot time music. And then I am able to click and open any program or file.

Any help to resolve this issue will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds suspiciously like something is timing out on you. Check your even
logs for any errors and see if you cannot resolve them. (START -> RUN ->
eventvwr)

Shenan,

Thanks for the advice. I did check the event logs, but everything seems to be normal. Couldn't place any abnormal behavior.

Any more help available?

regards,
