Strange behavior -- Outlook creates a second archive folder

I have found that periodically (during each autoarchive cycle), Outlook
creates a second archive.pst file on my computer, in addition to the main
archive file (which it successfully updates and which is correctly specified
as the auto archive data file).

Currently, my WinXP user ID is "john". All of my Outlook data files (pst,
ost, etc.) are stored in my .../Documents and Settings/John/Local Settings...
subfolders. One or two computers ago (data migrated to this computer), my
user ID was "John Smith" and all of my Outlook data files were stored in the
..../Documents and Settings/John Smith/Local Settings folder. When I changed
my user ID to "John" I deleted that Documents and Settings/John Smith folder
tree altogether.

Also of note, I connect to an Exchange Server where my user ID is currently
"John Smith". Thus, my mailbox name in outlook is "John Smith".

Whenever Outlook autoarchives my mailbox, it DOES update my archive.pst file
contained in the .../Documents and Settings/John/Local Settings folder....
However, it also creates a new achive.pst file AND A NEW DIRECTORY TREE (if
I've previously deleted it) in .../Documents and Settings/John Smith/Local
Settings... The archive folder it creates is only 256K, so it doesn't appear
to actually be transferring any data there.

I'm not sure if there is some "residue" in Outlook of the old John Smith
user ID (I can't find any reference to this in any of the data file
specifications for my Exchange mailbox nor for my archive folder) or if this
is caused by the fact that my Exhcange user ID doesn't match my Windows user
ID (this seems unlikely).

As long as this behavior doesn't interfere with my autoarchive functioning
properly, this is just a minor annoyance...however, one that I've tried
unsuccessfully to "fix" several times.

Any suggestions?

My suspicion is that, since each folder can have its own archive settings,
that one of them still points to your old Windows profile.
