Storing paswords with reverse encryption

Fred Peterson

My client would like to know if we should enable the
storing of passwords with reversible encryption in the
domain security policy. They would like to know what the
advantages and disadvantages are for doing so. I know
this feature is required to use CHAP is there any other
points of advantages and disadvantages.

Thanks in advance,

Fred

If you're using the MS Radius server, I don't even think that you need to do
that. There aren't really any advantages, per se.

The main disadvantage is it would make cracking passwords on the domain
controller very easy and should really be avoided if possible. --- Steve
