storing more than 300 auto text entries

In word 2000, useing Auto Text, i want to create about 400 different entries
and give each entry a unique code. The code followed by F3 will recall any
entry i want.
Great feature, but i can only input 100 entries , then i start to overwrite
after 100.

I am creating a directory of faults for an Electrical Company that a
secretary can easily access, Auto Text fits the bill.

can anyone please help.

According to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211489, the number of
AutoText entries per template is "Limited by template file size and/or
available memory" -- and that should be far more than 100, assuming
each entry has a reasonable size.

You could try adding your entries to an otherwise empty new template.
Then store that template in Word's Startup folder to make it global
(see
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/WhatTemplatesStore.htm).

To help speed up the job of loading entries, you can use the
autotextloader2.dot template from
http://jay-freedman.info/autotextloader2.zip.

While autotext (and autocorrect for that matter) will do what you want, you
may like to give some thought to using a specialised application for this.I
discovered Ghosttyper XML - http://www.sc-data.de/ghosttyper/en/index.php3 a
while back and I use it to store standard texts, primarily for use in
newsgroup posts (which of course are not available to autotext). It will
work in all applications and can use a variety of libraries of texts. You
can even use the same name for two insertions and it pops up with the
choice. I tend to use shortcut in the form #text . Essentially it takes the
concept of autocorrect a step further. Well worth a look.
