Storing data without a database?

Hey all,

Someone I know is doing a one-time job for a rent-to-own business that
involves making an inventory management/order tracking tool.
Only problem: the client does not have sql server. Their setup involves
several networked PC's running windows xp.

He asked me how he should store their data without sql server, but I'm
clueless. Maybe using foxpro? What do you all think?

Try with MSDE: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/msde/default.asp

It's a free scaled-down version of SQL Server. Access is another
alternative.
