Stopping sound

F

findus

Hey,

I have some sound buttons on all of my slides in a
presentation. When clicked, the associated sound is
played. However, I cannot get the sound to stop by
clicking the button again. The only way I can stop the
sound is by clicking somewhere else on the slide, but
that advances to the next slide!

I've tried using the 'End when clicked' option in the
Effects pop-up, but that doesn't help.

No-one seems to know the answer to how to stop sound
playing - can anyone actually CONFIRM that they CAN do
this?

How can I stop a sound which is playing?

I'm using Office 2003.

Thanks in advance! :)
..

Hello,

The stop playing "On click" setting is for when you click anywhere on the
slide away from the object.

You can get the desired result by adding an additional effect (Stop) to the
sound object using the same button to "trigger" both the play and the stop
effects for a given sound:

1) Slide Show -> Custom Animation <to display the Custom Animation (CA)
task pane>
2) Select the icon for the inserted sound file (speaker icon)
3) In the CA task pane select "Add Effect -> Sound Actions -> Play"
4) In the CA task pane select "Add Effect -> Sound Actions -> Stop"
5) Select the "Play" effect in the list of effects in the CA task pane and
choose "Timing" from the drop-down menu
6) Click on the "Triggers" button in the Play Sound dialog and select
"Start effect on click of" and choose the "button" you want to use from the
list of available objects, then
7) Click "OK" <this creates a Trigger section in the CA task pane for the
selected "button"
8) Drag and drop the "Stop" effect in the CA task pane so that it is below
the "Play" effect for the trigger section just created.

Now run your slide show.

Click trigger button - sound plays
Click trigger button again - sound stops
Click trigger button again - sound plays again from beginning
Click trigger button again - sound stops
and so forth and so on.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions for how to
make this easier to do in PowerPoint, don't forget to send your feedback
(in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
