Stopping setup

After i installed a security program on my computer,
windows xp stopped working, nothing would load when i
logged in (not even sound drivers or explorer) and in
safe mode i could get nothing more than command prompt. I
tried to format my hard drive that way but i got some
error about it being locked. I decided to try and
reinstall windows. When it went to the second
installation part (where it has the features of xp) it
stayed at 39 minutes for about half an hour then come up
with a fatal error saying that setup failed to install
the product catalogs and that they should contain more
information. I looked and i found that to fix this I need
to rename a certain file in command prompt. The problem
is i can't get past the setup to get to command prompt.
No matter how many times i reconfigure my BIOS or tfy to
boot up in safe mode, or restart the computer, it always
restarts the setup. Does anybody know how I can get past
this to get to command prompt or some other way to solve
this problem? Thanks.

Hi Ryan, I really wish I could give you a solution, but I'm having similar
frustrations as yours.
And I hope somebody can advise me/us on a way to CONTINUE a failed force my
*installation of Windows 64-Bit Edition* to pick up at a point close to where
the last attempt failed.
In my case, I have repeatedly attempted to install Windows 64-Bit Edition on
my FIC K8-800T system. Often the installation gets right down to "Saving
Settings" (about 4 or 5 minutes left), before it aborts with "Stop:"
messages, or reboots. I don't want to begin laying out all the Exception
Data in this forum, I am relaying this in hope that an advisor can tell me
how to RESTART an installation of Windows 64-Bit Edition at a point after
"Registering Components" has completed. I am real tired of seeing that "39
minutes remaining in installation".
