STOP: 'New Hardware Found' Wizzard

R

Robin

I am having a serious problem with having upgraded my
Compaq laptop (Compaq Armada 7770) from Win 98 to XP Pro.

(Final paragraph cuts to the chase!)

Whenever I started up Win 98 I used to recieve a message
stating that windows had found new hardware - A 'Generic
CardBus Controller' - there is already one installed on the
PC which works fine and I can only assume it is miss
reading my configuration on startup. So in Win 98 I just
pressed cancel when the box appreared and everything would
run just fine.

With Win XP when I start up the PC the same message appears
in the system tray 'New Hardware Found: Generic CardBus
Controller' then goes on to briefly flash up 'Installing:
PCI to PCMCIA Addaptor' then the screen turns blue and the
message 'A problem has been detected by windows and your
system will be shut down to prevent damage appears -
FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA' and the system re boots.

When scandisk starts there are always lost fragments caused
by the installation of this spoof controller. The system
boots just fine from F8 Safe Mode.

The long and the short of it is that I need to find a way
to stop windows detecting and / or automatically installing
the new hardware it thinks it has found as the system runs
just fine without it. Is there any way to disable this wizzard?

Any help very much appreciated,
Robin.
