Can someone help me. I am a novice and my home PC will not start up after
displaying the Windows XP scrren. It will automatically shut down and go to
a blue screen with the follwoing error message:

Stop: C0000221 {bad image checksum} The image shell32.dll is possibly
corrupt. The headerchecksum does not match the computed checksum.

My husband cannot find the disc that came with the PC and I am at a loss.
Please HELP!!

That is a hardware failure. Perhaps the disk is nearing the end of its
life. Please don't bother to tell us how new it is; hardware fails when it
chooses.

You may need to buy a new XP distribution disk. There may be tools on the
disk (chkdsk for example) which can repair bad sectors. When hubby finds
out how much one costs, he will have greater incentive to try harder..

You may be able to get by for a while; however, my feeling is that it would
be cheaper to replace the hard drive and reinstall XP. Depending on your
skill level, reloading XP can be quite a task in itself. Perhaps you should
take the computer to a good repair shop (not Best Buy nor CompUSA).
