Stop auto reply

Outlook is generating an auto reply message I didn't generate. Everytime I
shut down the computer, it will send a message to anyone I sent a message to
- even if they've already received the message I didn't create. I don't use
Express.

My OS is XP and the last modification to Outlook 2003 was February 13, 2008
and the messages began immediately. My computer is set to automatically
upload (?) updates.

I've tried removing Word as suggested and walked myself through the MS video
tutorial. Nothing has worked.

I appreciate any clues, tips, suggestions.

I'd like a little clarification on exactly what is happening here.

What does the auto-reply say?
How do you know Outlook is sending it?
How do you know it happens when you shut down your computer?
Are the messages being sent showing up in your Sent Items?
What type of mail server?
You say 'It will send a message to anyone I sent a message to', do you mean
just for that session, or ever?
