Mike, I don't disagree that a widespread epidemic COULD happen. What I
am saying and have been saying is that the opportunity to create an
animal that could cause such an epidemic has existed for a long time. I
will not guess at the number of linux users vs windows users, but I will
hazard a guess that there are now and have been for some time enough
linux users to cause a motivated coder to create some type of
"well-crafted and innovative" malware for both bragging rights and
monetary gain. I just don't agree with the opinion that numbers and
numbers alone are the reason linux isn't a target.

Nah...you've got that all wrong. The size of the target is most important.
If a hacker says "i hacked into an open source linux distro" you think
he has any bragging rights? Who cares? They'll just laugh at him!
But If he says "i just hacked into a bank of server 2003's", then he's
king of hill!

First, who is "they"? Secondly, are there enough server 2003's in
service to even create a bank of them? All gentle jabs aside, I
believe the discussion was centered on desktops, not servers. I stand by
