Still no audio

While waiting for more advice from helpful Efrain, I am
posting this, perhaps redundantly....

In these groups, for Webcam communication, we were
advised to go to NSN Messenger 6.2 .... and we did, and 2-way
Webcam is working fine. But we can get no audio either way.
It just may be that NetMeeting is still there, in the way
somehow.

I went to uninstall it, but can't find it via Add/Remove programs,
and not in the Microsoft list under Add/Remove.

Please, how do I take NetMeeting out of the picture? And as an
aside, any advice about the audio in MSN Messenger would be welcome.

MSN Messenger 6.2 audio/video requirements:

1. If using a modem/router it must be UPnP compatible. Set Zone Alarm to
medium or shutdown, but if you are proficient with the settings, allow MSN
Messenger 6.2.0205 access to the Internet.

2. On the Network Connections, right click Local Area Connection, go to
Properties, and the General tab should show a check mark only on Client for
Microsoft Network, and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). No check on File and
Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, nor on QoS Packet Scheduler.

3. The Windows Firewall should be ON (recommended) and no check in Don't
allow exceptions . The Exceptions tab will later show the MSN Messenger
6.2.0205 and UPnP Framework as being active.

4. In the Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > Add Remove Windows
Components, scroll to Networking Services and remove all checks, except for
Internet Gateway Device Discovery (A), and for UPnP User Interface (B). Click
Ok, Next, and after clicking Next the Windows Wizard Component will run.
Click Finish; now the UPnP will automatically open all required ports.

5. Sign in on Messenger and run Audio/Video Tuning Wizard. In the Tools >
Options > Connection tab, you should read You are connected to the Internet
through a UPnP symmetric NAT. (Administrator); if you are using a dial-up
line it will read You are connected to the Internet using a direct
connection. Now check the Windows Firewall Exceptions list, the MSN Messenger
6.2.0205 and UPnP Framework will now have a check marks and the required
ports automatically opend.

6. Both Windows XP users sides should have similar setups, with working
webcams and microphones. Remember that one side can have dial-up and the
other a UPnP compatible modem/router.

(A) Allow you to find and Control internet connection sharing hardware and
software that uses UPnP.

(B) Display icons in My Network Places for the UPnP devices detected on the
network; also opens the required Windows Firewall ports.

I can't comment on this (1) other than to say I am hard-wired
to the Internet via BellSouth DSL and its always-on modem connection.
Other audio goes thru this just fine. I have no ZA.

**** We have tested our gear at both ends and have live mikes and speakers

(A) Allow you to find and Control internet connection sharing hardware and
software that uses UPnP.

*****I don't understand this. Surely MSN Messenger 6.2 qualifies......

show almost nothing.

Truth is, Efrain, I don't know what it means, or what (B) is supposed to

I am with you on all of this. I have tried all the same but still this
doesn't fix the problems. I have to wonder if this is something that will
ever be fixed. I can not figure out why you can purchase all these things to
be more in touch with our friends and family only to have so much trouble.

Is highway robbery coming into mind. It just doesn't seem right at all. Your
told to update this and that. Download these updates to fix the problems only
to have more problems.

Why is a big question can this not be a simple task for us and for those who
are not that proficient in the workings of computers.

I think I am going to go back to the old ways if communication, It is called
the Telephone........I sure hope you can get your situation solved. I will
watch and wait to see what happens as I just can not spend anymore time on
going over and over doing the something's only to not be able to chat with my
friend....

(A) and (B) are only the information that we all see when we click the item,
it's just information. Also we all are connected to .NET Messenger ... etc,
but is the indormation written under Advanced Connection Information, way
down on the same display.

Contact BellSouth and ask if the supplied modem is UPnP compatible.. if it
isn't, ask them if they can supply one that is..

Lady Driver: Will you be so kind and let me know the sound card model you
use? I hope is a Santa Cruz like the one I have. Do you use a headset with
integrated microphone? Does your webcam has also a microphone? My questions

I would like to tell what it is but I am not sure where to find this. Can you
show me the way so I can let you know.

I use a headset with intergrated microphone......I think my webcam has a
microphone? When I installed it nothing came up about this but looking at it
it does have markings in the base that looks like it does have one.

I hope that helps you. I will have a closer look at the webcam once I locate
my eye glasses. Like the remote control or my cell phone I can never find
them right when I want them!

Such is life?? I use to loose my road maps also which wasn't a good thing
when going to places I have never been to!

I will keep watch on the situation. I am sure many others are looking into
all this also. What we have come to depend on in this world today. Our elders
would shake their heads at all this I am sure. I will sill use the phone also
however...LOL
