Still have probs with Milestone Chart

J

John Castle

I need a chart with a list of Project Milestones going up
the Y axis and dates (months) across the bottom X axis.

I will then plot series with markers showing when each
Milestone was completed. I can get the chart to work with
the Milestones as the X axis and the dates as the Y axis,
but this will not do. If I could rotate the chart through
90 degrees I may be able to do something with it?? It was
suggested to me that I use a scatter chart, but I have had
no luck in doing so. Can anyone help?

John -

When you use the scatter chart, you have to adjust the data and axis
scales carefully.

For the height of the markers, I usually use 1,2,3,...N, where N is the
number of floating bars. I set my scale from 0.5 to N + 0.5, to line up
the markers with the center of the bars.

For the lateral dimension, if the bars use real dates for their values,
I simply use the corresponding dates. The X values of the scatter series
then line up along the bar chart's value axis, and I can usually get rid
of the secondary X axis.

This is the subject of a pending article on my web site, if and when I
can get time to work on it.
