Still able to open a document after it was deleted

I have a user who deleted a document in My Computer. They then went into word
and the deleted item was in their recent document list, when they clicked on
it the document opened up. Any ideas on why this is happening or how to
permenantly delete the document. This is in Word 2007.

Obviously the document still exists somewhere on the hard disk. Search for it
in Windows and then delete it when found.
