still a registry error

jon

I am getting this error about every 1 minute once logged
onto win 2000:

"Cannot import v48.reg Not all data was successfully
written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system
or other processes."

The file names change, but the result is the same. I can
still use the computer, but these messages keep jumping up.

I did a virus scan and did not find a virus. I have about
12 computers on the network doing this. No XP machine are
doing this. If I log on with administrative rights, I
don't seem to have the problem.

Any help?

If not a virus per se, scan for Trojans/Spyware/Adware.

If you don't use Ad-Aware and Spybot (or equiv.) you need to
regularly.

check the HKey\CurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Run key logged in as a
user experiencing the issue.

you may find a regedit /s command in there.

Hi Jon

You might also want to look at using a tool from www.sysinternals.com called
registry monitor (regmon). This tool will show you all registry reads and
writes together with what application is doing them. Running this tool
should show you which executable is writing stuff the the registry, to which
you can probably search for it, see if it's critical and if not, delete it.
