Status Bar sums disappear when using Data Filter

Usually when using Data Filter, "xx of xx records
found "appears (where xx is numbers such as 5 of 50) in
the lower left corner of the screen on the status bar. On
one file the sum no longer appears. It did appear, but now
does not. The status bar simply says "Filter Mode" before
changing a filter criteria, and "Ready" after selecting a
filter criteria from the drop down menu. I have tried
several criteria and receive the same resuld. What do I
need to get "xx of xx records found" to show on the status
bar?
