Status Bar shows "Calculate", but calculation is set to Automatic

Excel 2007 on Vista Business
All of my spreadsheets are set to Automatic Calculation with Iterative
turned on and Max Iterations set to 9999. Some of my smaller and less
complex spreadsheets show "Ready" in the Status Bar. My larger and more
complex spreadsheets show both "Ready" and "Calculate" in the Status Bar.
When I hover over "Calculate", it tells me "Results of formulas may be out of
date because Excel is not set to calculate automatically. Click here or press
F9 to recalculate manually."

What is causing this to happen? Some of my calculations are not showing the
correct result. How can this be fixed? Thanks in advance for any help.
