Startup takes forever

I have XP Pro and just before it gets to the windows
logon screen, it holds at a black screen for like 5
minutes. It started doing this after i did all the
windows updates. Please help.

Run an anti-virus program and check to see if you may have been hit by a
virus.

Run Ad-Aware 6 and Spybot Search and Destroy so as to remove any
spyware/malware/hackware that may be slowing your PC down.

Stop all the automatic start-up programs you can.

Install a firewall (XP's is just too basic)
 
Yea, ive run ad-aware afew times. I have scanned my pc
with antivirus software. And it still takes forever to
start up
 
Check for services that are not running correctly. Or, an app being loaded
by HKLM that is not functioning correctly. MSCONFIG will be able to
identify all startups in HKLM.
