Startup stops before login

It gets to the Windows 2000 loading screen, with the blue
line dealy, but stops when it's finished. The logo loses
some color and the windows login music plays, but it
doesn't get to the actual login screen or desktop. Or if
it does, it doesn't display it.

Any help would be nice to have.

I should probably mention it's an HP Pavilion XE744... it
had Windows 2000 (Professional) on it before, but we had
to reformat and now it's not working. Also, if replying by
email, please send it to my hotmail account. It's the same
screenname.

Hi Claude,
Possibly a problem with the display adapter or display driver. Try booting
into Safe Mode (tap the F8 key just as Windows starts loading, immediately
after the "POST" screen).

If you can get into Safe Mode, try adding the "/basevideo" switch to your
boot.ini file. See the following article for more information:
