OK so im using my moms computer. Everything was fine, but when i shut down i
noticed that the shutdown image had been changed from what my mom had. I
don't know how the startup/shutdown image changed. Im not even sure if thats
what you call them. Its the image that comes up when loading, before the
logon screen, and the screen that comes up when waiting to shut down. I have
found some verry technical artical's detailing how to modifiy one but the
size has to be 640x480 (i think) & 16 color, and you have to mess with the
kernal file, but scense i did not do this to change it, and im sure neither
did my mom, I shouldn't have to do it to change it back. Right? Also I know
there is programs that change this, but the majority of them are embeded with
spyware. Please Please Please help asap!

And the antivirus you have installed is? Name and version please.

If you think your computer is infected, you can check for viruses and
malware by going through these steps systematically:

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional computer repair
shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).

ok I have a nVIDIA Graphics card 420 i think, anyway i think i got it changed
by using the nVIDIA display manager. For some reason my scrole ablity is
disabled on the windows display properties to change background, hence why i
couldnt change it i think. but on the other hand the nVIDIA enable buttons
were deslected.(i selected them to get tabs to change propertys>saved>then
dis-abled them again by unchecking. I changed a file in C:\Documents and
Settings\Terry Watson\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Internet
Explorer Wallpaper.bmp. to a file more suitable untill i can find the right
copy that my mom wants. But any other help with the other problem would be
apriciated.
Thanks

Your posts are rather confusing. You got what changed? I'm not sure from
reading the above what "the other problem" is.

Remember that we cannot see your computer and you need to describe
things clearly and concisely. Use sentences, punctuation, and proper
capitalization. I'm not saying this to hurt your feelings but rather to
help maximize your chances of getting accurate answers.

So, start again and answer these questions - use numbered points if that
will help organize your thoughts:

1. What antivirus do you have installed? We need the name of the program
and the version. You can get the version by opening the program and
looking at Help>About.

2. Have you done any scanning for non-viral malware? If yes, with what
program(s) and version(s)?

3. Describe the problem(s) clearly. The first one is that your startup
splash screen has apparently changed from the standard Windows one,
yes? If this is correct, describe the splash screen. If you didn't
change it, did someone else in your household? If you aren't sure,
please ask them.

4. Describe what is happening in your Display applet.
