Hi

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place.

Sometimes, some of my startup programs do not run when I start my
computer, like the volume control or a few other programs I would like
run at startup. If I restart my computer they may or may not start.

Can anybody help?

Handy

Without knowing what programs you're talking about, it's hard to provide
specific advice.

W/r/t the volume control icon: Are you referring to the Windows XP volume
control, or a volume control that's part of other software?

I'm talking about the Windows volume control that shows up in the syste
tray on the bottom right. Sometimes it shows up and sometimes i
doesn't. Other programs like Microsoft Antispyware also do not alway
launch.

Windows' own volume control is not a startup program. It is invoked through
Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Volume tab.

If your computer belongs to a domain (for example, if this is your work
computer) the setting is controlled by group policy. Contact your IT
department.

Microsoft's Antispyware program is a beta version, so it's not a finished
product. Ask questions about it in the Microsoft Antispyware newsgroups:

Thank you - but the volume control setting for "Place volume control
icon in the task bar" is properly checked. Why would it sometimes show
up and sometimes not show up? Other programs which are set to load
during startup also do not load while others load fine. I've tried
placing them in the Startup folder and they still won't load. They do
load if I click their exe after startup so I know the programs
themselves are ok. There is something screwy with the startup routine.

I have the same problem. It appears that certain programs don't load during
startup, and that is reflected by missing icons in the system tray. Any help
would be wonderful.
