hi, my XP frequently freezes when i log in, and i have to restart, sometimes
several times. No errors are displayed. could someone tell me if there's an
error log i can look to, to see if there's an application trying to start
which is causing this?

i've checked my event log, in application i have an ipod warning and in
system i have one about bluetooth, but they're only warnings and not fatal.
is there somewhere else that gives a sequential list of startup processes?

thanks in advance
danK

I recollect, from safe mode, there is a boot log option.

You can allways use msconfig, disable all none MS startups, then its a
process of illimination

Hi,

Click start/run and type msconfig, then click ok. Go to the boot.ini tab and
enable the bootlog option. This will create an ntbtlog.txt file in your
Windows directory when the system is booted.

hi, thanks firstly for all your responses.. i've currently got the clean boot
running permanently and i'm gradually reintroducing my startup services and
processes.

just one thing, is it safe to continue in this manner with minimal services
running.. ie are there any windows processes that i need to make sure are
still running for safety/security? (i've made sure my firewall's on!!)

thanks again
