Hello
I am new in this group, and English is not my language... so, please, be
patient!

I see that in december Handy and Haybate proposed the same problem that I
have now, but nobody gave them a good answer.

This is problem:
not all the startup applications always start as they should do.
I am speaking about a lot of applications, both microsoft and not.
For example
- Epson printer monitor,
- Toshiba Bluetooth monitoring
- Intel wireless status,
- windows secure hardware removing,
- a printscreen freeware program named Gadwin,
and some others….

I analysed all the startup applications listed in msconfig.
I believed to have find the solution removing ctfmon.exe
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=282599
In fact, after having removed this program, rebooting the system, I saw ALL
my icons.
But it happened only ONE TIME. At the next reboot I had the problem again.

Thank you very much in advance
Bye

If you just talk about that the icons are not visible, follow this to
correct the problem: "How to Clear Past Items from the Notification
Area" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283084).

Dear Thorsten Matzner
As you advised me, I tried to "Clear Past Items from the Notification Area",
but it did not solve my problem.

I also eliminated not usefull startup applications using the Autoruns
freeware tool from Sysinternals. (I read article "Restore Your Computer's
Performance with Windows XP" Published: March 8, 2004, By Tony Northrup,
Windows XP Expert Zone Community Columnis
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/expert/northrup_restoreperf.mspx )

But I still have same problems: now, for example,
- the bluetooth manager has not started,

- there is not the icon "hardware peripheral removal": if I connect and
disconnect USB peripherals I can hear the sound, but I cannot disconnect
them safely.

- "Gadwin printscreen" program: I see the initial "splash window" , but
after all applications loading (the last one is Norton Antivirus 2006), there
is not Gadwin icon and the program is not active.

(Obviously missing icons in the sustem tray are not idden, they are really
missing.)

WHAT A STUPID PROBLEM!!!
I have an external USB HDD (an Hitachi 2,5") and it is usually always
connected to a D-LINK USB HUB. I disconnected it..... and all my startup
applications started correctly !!!
I tried two times to restart my PC, and now everything seems going well.

In any case, I think that XP has still some problems with USB! Istn't it??

Thank you for your partecipation.
Bye
