I've been using PC Forrest's Startman since I bought my WindowsXP laptop
(about 18 months).Recently when I try to start Startman by clicking on
the desktop icon or going right to the .exe file, it launches, or trys
to launch Microsoft installer and gets into an install sequence which it
cannot complete. I then click out the various error messages. From that
point on my only recourse is to uninstall and reinstall. However, within
days I get the same behavior.

Startman has performed for me over the last 5 years or so on my 98
machine and on the XP. It is no longer available to my knowledge or
maintained. It has really helped me patrol my startup intruders and
eliminate duplicates. It worked!.

I like to know what might be going on and is it fixable. Alternatively
is there a comperable freeware app that can replace it?

TIA

Hi, are you using video software like pinnacle studio or ulead? My
experience was to update to the next version fixed such problems.
Especially the smartsound-software which will be installed by various
video software causes problems. Yes it seems to be a curious solution
but at my pc it works.

No. I do not have any video apps that I'm aware of nor do I do video stuff
on my computer. How would I determine is I have "Smartsound"
