Starting Win 2K problem

Win 2K will not start properly (just shows the background) unless the Win 2K installation disk is in the drive. I have gone through renaming a suspected list of suspect .dll files and letting Windows recreate them with no net result (Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 256194). I have tried repairing the drive using the installation disk and no net result. Any clues?

How exactly did you try to repair your Win2000 installation?
