Starting the internet connection at startup

Orbus Terrarum

Hello,

I'd like start my adsl internet connection at startup. I tried to put the
shortcut to my network connection in the startup folder, but Windows seems
to have changed the properties of the shortcut after a reboot ?!

It probably has to do with the properties of the object the shortcut is
pointing to.

It should be:

Target Type: {BA126AD7-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E }

Target Location: Network Connections

And this is what the shortcut is like after a reboot:

Target Type: My Computer

Target Location: Desktop

Target: My Computer

Any idea's? If this not possible, how can I start the connection
automatically at startup?

OBTW, the modem being used is an Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem.

Thanks in advance!

You're overcomplicating it. To make it easiest on yourself, open the
Network & dial-up connections folder & create a shortcut to the specific
entry "dialed" for your ADSL connection. This puts it on the desktop by
default. Then move/copy it to the startup folder.
That's exactly what I did... But after the reboot the shortcut to the
network connection (in the startup folder) has changed somehow! The
properties of the shortcut (that used to be) called 'target type' and
'target location' are changed into 'My computer' and 'Desktop'. That's the
problem.

Better to set up the shortcut by opening Network Connections and right
dragging the connection out, into the startup folder, take 'Create
Shortcut here'.

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, this didn't work either. But I managed to solve the problem
by adding an entry to the registry in the location Microsoft\Current
Version\Run. The entry started the shortcut already on my desktop (thus the
shortcut I've always used to activitate my connection).

So creating a shortcut in the startup folder doesn't work, it's still
mystery why. But anyway, the problem has been resolved, that's the most
important thing!
