starting at page 4 but using the number 1

i have a document that is 15 pages long. but i want to start the page
numbering on page 4 using the number 1
 
You will need to insert a Next Page Section break at the bottom of the page
before the one where you want to start the numbering. Then you can View
Header and Footer and insert your page numbers.

if you want to omit page numbering for Section 1, you must unlink the
Section 2 header/footer in order to leave the Section 1 header/footer blank.

Of course the other option, if your document is only 15 pages, is to just
number the pages manually in the footer....
