With Windows XP and my old non-internet keyboard I have
no problems. But with a Microsoft Internet keyboard I
MUST avoid touching the mouse until start-up is finished
and THEN press "ESC". If I don't do this either the
keyboard and mouse lock up or I get an infinte string
of "......................" in every text field. Anyone
else seen this syndrome?

Not sure why touching the mouse would affect anything... Sounds like the period key on the keyboard may be stuck, if you're getting a string of periods. Also, try reinstalling the software/driver for your keyboard. If none of this works, you may just have a keyboard that needs to be replaced. Check your warranty
