Start up programs

How do you disable certain programs from starting up when
Windows starts up? I knew how to do it with my old comp.
(windows 98). When I tried to do it the same way, it did
not give me the option of cancelling the program at start
up.

Hi

From Start>Run type

msconfig

then click on the Startup tab. You can uncheck those that you don't want
loading with Windows and then reboot your system. Some programs may be
initialised from with the program itself. Use the following link to clear
the disabled entries:

The best way to resolve this is probably from within the
program itself. There is almost certainly a setting under
Preferences or Tools that lets you toggle On/Off the
startup options.

Also, look in the Startup Folder under Start, All
Programs. If it's there you can remove it (right-click,
delete).

MSCONFIG is another option but an imperfect one. If you
remove it with MSCONFIG, the program may put it right back
in on the next boot up (because it's still turned on in
Preferences, mentioned above). MSCONFIG is primarily used
for diagnostic purposes.

Here's a little tutorial in case you MUST use MSCONFIG:

Good Luck !
