Start-Up programs & Recent Documents

All previous versions of Windows seemed to make these
procedures intuitive, but with XP I find it less easy &
the "Help" pages leave a lot to be desired (no change
there).

These are the things I am trying to do:-
1) I want to edit the programs which load on Start-Up,
i.e. I want to lose some, to stop them from loading
automatically.

2) I want to be able to erase my "Recent Documents". I
used to go to the relevant directory & erase there, but
it seems it's now so full, that it takes an age to even
show me what's in there!

All help gratefully received.

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the Startup tab, uncheck the programs you wish
not to startup, then click Apply.

To Clear the Contents of the My Recent Documents Folder:

1. Right-click Start, and then click Properties.
2. Click Customize.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Under Recent documents, click Clear List, click OK, and then click OK.
Your most recently used documents are removed from the My Recent Documents folder.
Note that this action does not delete the documents from your hard disk.

Hi There,

for No.2 goto www.ccleaner.com and download the ccleaner, it's free and
it will remove all the rubbish, history, temp files
etc. and you can also check the registry for inconsistencies and fix them.

For No.1use msconfig from the start -> run and you can edit everything
in there

Hope this helps,

regards

GB

Thanks mate - sorted!

It is best to do this through the option in the program's own settings,
if any. Otherwise if you run it 'manually' it is likely to put the auto
start back

If there is no such setting,
Start - Run Msconfig.exe
On the startup page uncheck things you do not want to start
automatically
