My Recent Documents

Steve

Can anyone tell me where the history file for 'My recent Documents' is
stored?

Is there a registry key that can be edited in the same way as the 'Typed
URLS' in Internet Explorer.?

Occasionally I want to clear some of the list, but using the 'Clear Recent
Documents' option via 'Advanced Settings' tab in 'Customise Start Menu' I
lose all documents and the URL's from Internet Explorer.

How can I lose just 5 or 6 documents from 'My recent Documents'? I don't
want to unselect the 'List my Recent Documents' option as there may be files
I want to keep on the list.

Ideas anyone?

TIA

Steve

That seems to be a lot of work to get a recently used list to look the
way you want only to have it change every time you open a new file.

As I have told my employees many times over, learn were your files are,
they are not on that list and then don't worry about the list. However I
have also taught them that they can just open and save the five files they
want to see on the list in the reverse order and that will make the list the
way they want it, not typing required.

Thanks. Thats exactly what I needed. From time to time I work on sensitive
documents that I want to 'lose' from the list. But deleting them one by one
is a nusiance, esp as others which you thought had gone re-appear in their
place..

Now I can 'shift-Del' them from that folder [ we don't want them in the
recycled bin do we ;-) ]

The Windows system keeps so many copies of things you are likely only to
keep casual users from seeing your "sensitive" material. The best
protection is to properly secure the PC.

Where I worked (I just retired) I had the unpleasant task of doing some
investigation of employee's computers. It was amazing what some were doing
and I am sure thought no one would ever see (deleting is not enough). For
the most part, I am the only one that even knew about any of it as it was
not what we were looking for, but it was clear they tried to hide it, just
did not do a very good job.

If it is your personal computer, keep others out. If it is a business
computer, don't use it for anything your boss would disapprove of. If it is
illegal, just don't do it. Those guys are really good at finding things.
