Start up problems

On Start up I'm getting an error that says:

Windows could not start because of an error in the
software. Please report this problem as : Load needed
DLLs for Kernel.

This is on a 2 day old XP Pro SP1 installation. There
has been nothing downloaded to replace or modify the
Kernel. How can I fix this

Thanks in advance!!!

Did you go into the Recovery Management Console of Windows XP, and use Last
known configuration that started Windows XP properly to see if that works?

Also, try booting from the Windows XP CD-ROM to re-run setup and do a repair
of the installation.
