My problem is that when I log onto Windows XP with my
account, the computer freezes up before it
finishes "loading". My background loads up and so does
my desktop. But before my bottom row (that includes the
start button) loads up, the computer is stuck in an
endless loop. When I open task manager, I see
that "explorer.exe" is using 100% of the CPU resources.
Also when task manager is opened up, the bottom row loads
up so that I can see the start button but whenever I put
the mouse onto the start button, it changes into an
hourglass. When I turn off "explorer.exe", the computer
responsive again (up until now, it is extremely slow) but
I can only open programs via the task manager. I've kept
up with the windows updates and created restore points
along the way but I cannot access that with the task
manager (I don't know how). The computer loads up fine
if any of the other profiles are logged on. But I am the
only one with administrator rights and my profile is the
only one that is messed up. The only thing I've done
recently is that I've downloaded the new windows media
player (version 9 I believe) but it worked fine after I
installed it. I also disconnected my printer to take
into another room for use with another computer (this was
done by my father in law while I was gone on a business
trip). When I returned from my trip, I noticed my
computer had this problem. I've done a virus check with
Norton and everything is clean.
Can anyone help?
thanks,
