Start to slow the xp pro

I have install the xp pro in a pIV 3.2Mhz an i have a network whit a domain,
the problem is it takes abaut 5 minuts or more to get to the login screen and
the monitor turns balck to taht point.

After login when i start any program the program takes a more time tha
should have to start.

any iediea so resolve this slowest problem

The first thing to always check for is viruses/malware.

If the machine is completely clean, look at Event Viewer for clues.
Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

If you don't find anything useful there, check your data transfer mode
on the drive. See MVP Hans-Georg Michna's site here:

After you've done that troubleshooting, if you need more help then post

Yes, and GR should check to make sure there's not too much anti-virus
anti-spyware norton this-n-that stuff running. Sometimes all the 'extras'
slow the machine down too. And if there are a lot of programs installed now
that run at startup, he might be taxing the RAM and causing disk thrashing
which slows it all down. Cutting down on the number of behind-the-scenes
stuff and putting in an extra or a bigger stick of RAM could take care of
that.

As well he might defragment the harddrive, which might speed up performance
a bit if the files on the drive have become highly fragmented.
