start search companion problem

After a complete system re-format of win xp, IE6, etc i get an internet
explorer error whenever i click on the search button in the start menu, says
a file needed is missing i should run setup. I've have windows xp, IE6 sp2,
also did it in sp1. How do i get the search to work in start menu?

Does it specify what file is missing?
