Hey guys,

be gentle, first time posting! Have installed Office home and student and
running XP 2000 SP2. Love the new look word but once I've opened the program
I can no longer access the start menu and/or task bar. This is extremely
annoying and only a restart will bring it back. Any helpful suggestions
greatly appreciated.

What version of Office--2007 or 2003? What's XP 2000? It's either Windows
2000 or Windows XP. Post more info so someone can help.

Whoops. Sorry about that. Yep Windows XP, dunno where the 2000 came from and
it's Office Home & Student 2007. I have the taskbar set to auto hide and once
I've run office it won't unhide, if that's even a word. Love the new look
office but I can't put up with that!

TIA

I have experienced this problem from time to time when using Microsoft
Office Picture Manager (in Office 2003). The only recourse is to minimize
all the open windows in order to use the Taskbar. Usually when I close MOPM,
the problem is resolved, but there does seem to be some sort of bug
somewhere in the Office code.

I gather from your follow-up that it's the Taskbar you're really wanting to
access rather than the Start menu itself, but does the Windows key not open
the Start menu for you?

That's what I have been doing, minimizing all the open windows. The Windows
key does not bring up the start menu and the taskbar just refuses to show
itself. Unless there is a fix I'll just have to live with it I suppose.
Annoyingly, if I forget to minimize only a restart allows me to access the
start menu/taskbar.
