Thank you for the reply but I get a message that it is not valid. What I am
using now is: %SystemRoot%\Explorer.Exe /e,C:\ It opens to the C:\ drive
but will not expand on the left-hand side. I would appreciate any more
ideas.

Hi Kelly,

Well it USED to expand C: on the left-hand side but now it only expands on
the right-hand side. I just can't imagine what is going on and it's driving
me up the wall.

My menu icon for WinExplorer opens with the C drive expanded

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n,/e
Start in %windir%

I opted for the Ctl +Alt +E shortcut from its Properties menu, tend to
use that most of the time.

In the windows folder there are 2 Explorer icons. Make a shortcut to
the one represented by a folder\magnifying glass and this will open
with C drive expanded.

Thanks for the reply. I tried your idea and it won't work either.
Something very strange going on here.

I tried both of the icons just in case but it seems nothing I do will make
Explorer open with the C:\ expanded on the left. Thank you for the reply
though.

Strange. In all the 50 or so XP installations on various PCs I've done
it has always worked for me. Maybe there's some difference in you
preferences settings to mine. I'm a failure......
