Start computer w/o Google Desktop?

I unclick Google Desktop in the Toolbars tab of the Taskbar and Start Menu
Properties and click OK. The Google Desktop then disappears from my Taskbar
but reappears next time I start my computer. If that's not illegal, it
should be. In the meantime, how can I PERMANETLY delete the Google Desktop?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Control Panel>Programs and Features>select Google Desktop>click
Uninstall button.
