Start Button Issue

I am running WinXP SP2, and lately, when I try to click on the Start button,
it displays the start menu BRIEFLY, then it disappears and the desktop icons
refresh. If I click on it a second time, the menu will display properly and
work as expected.

Any ideas what is causing this?

Having the same problem. Would love to figure this out. It's SUPER ANNOYING!

Using WinXP Pro SP2. Tried several "Fix/Restore Start Menu" scripts but
nothing so far has worked.
