The starfields screensaver has been seemingly eliminated from Vista. I would
like it back, it has been my meditation focus for 10 years.

Is there any way to get it back?

Yes, although it boggles my mind no one eles has tried this yet. If I'm the
first to figure this out -- GO ME!

Find an XP box and navigate to the C:\windows\system32 folder. Search out
"ssstars.scr" and copy it to the same folder on your Vista machine (via your
choice, i.e. network or usb key).

And there it is.

Thanks, I am going to do it right now.

Scott-

Thanks again, It worked just fine.

I actually had to email it to myself, and Outlook refused to load it. So I
had to use my Yahoo mail, which worked just fine. My Windows folder is not
shared on my nbetwork. It is Read Only. To change that and then change it
back was a lot of time on a PIII. So, I tried the email route and it worked.

So, Now I loaded it on my two Vista machines. I was running the screensavers
from BOINC and World Community Grid. Now I can tell those guys, who don't
really want us running their beautiful screensavers, that I am no longer
running them.

Thanks again.

Scott-

Of possible interest: The star fields screen saver is solid a s a rock in my
Vista Business laptop.

But in My Vista home Premium desktop, it is not so solid. That computer
began acting up with third party screen savers from World Community Grid, and
BOINC, two grid computing software organization. The screen saver would not
start unless I re chose it from the list. The standard screen savers in Vista
all act normally. The computer is treating star fields as if it were a third
party screen saver.

Because it is working so well in the laptop, this is clearly not a problem
with the screen saver, but rather with either my computer or with Vista Home
Premium.

Best,
