Dear all,

I have got a small prob.
Afer installing a software the standby option isn't available anymore. So I
decided to uninstall the same but it did not help.

Does anybody know how I can re-enable standby on my Win xp machine?

Thanks

Fab

P.S.: i have already tried by start=> control panel=>power options by I do
not see anything that can enable both standby and hibernation.

The lack of a Standby button indicates you are using XP's
generic VGA drivers.

Your video adapter drivers probably need to be reinstalled.
Visit the support web site of the manufacturer of your video
card adapter and download the latest drivers.

Before installing them, uninstall the old drivers. In your
Control Panel, open the Add or Remove Programs applet
and look for your video drivers to uninstall.

If you happen to have a notebook computer, visit the notebook
manufacturer's support website to download the correct video
adapter drivers for your specific notebook model.

After installing a fresh set of drivers, right-click on your
desktop and select Properties > Settings, change the Color
Quality to "Highest (32 bit), then adjust your Screen Resolution
to your liking, then click on Apply.

Hi,

I need specifics about the program so that I can look into what the program
does to the system at installation. As has been pointed out (and I referred
to in that article I wrote that you were referred to), installing software
can cause the system to lose this function due to changes it made. If
removing the software does not resolve the issue, then we have to examine
what precisely the program changed in the system. You might try a "System
Restore" if it hasn't been too long since the original installation, a point
from prior to this may resolve it. Otherwise, I would speculate that this is
driver related, a file may have been altered or overwritten by an earlier
version. Check the \Windows folder for an install.log for this software, it
may also contain needed information about changes the software made.

Hello Rick,

The software is called HPchem by agilent technologies www.agilent.com/chem

I was browsing the /Windows directory for any log files, but I could not
any.
Is it possible that the software changed some of the system files such as
system.ini or config.nt? If can I restore standby and hibernation by
modifying them?

is it possible that my BIOS has been changed ny the software? Is there any
connextion between BIOS and standby mode?

Hi,

Thier site requires logins by registered users for detailed information -
rats, makes it difficult to know what was altered. I would try a System
Restore first.
