I understand a few messages remain on the standby-screen:
eg. How many programs are running? or How many e-mails
remain unopened?
..... specifically it always shows the number of Hotmail e-
mails unread ...... eventhough i have cleared my Hotmail
emails and IE's Cookies/Files/History...

any help please would be appreciated
Thanks

This is an annoyance but is quite easy to fix. You can either "stop" the "unread mail message" all together or you can simply clear it for the present screen. I have mine set up so I don't get any "unread mail messages." Go>start\run and type in regedit and click ok or hit enter on your keyboard. Now follow this route by clicking the + symbol beside the entries in this order. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/UnreadMail Now if you just want to clear the present number then double click on UnreadMail and that will open it's sub keys in the right frame. Now double click on Message Expiry Days and type in 0. This clears the present screen and resets it. Now if you want to stop the message all together go>HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Micorosoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/UnreadMail Now right click on it and then click permissions and in all cases and all users set this to "deny" and you will never be bothered by the message again. I suggest you write the route down or perhaps print this message so you will have it on hand if you want to reverse the changes you have made. Welcome to reg tweaking 101. lol lol. Have fun. {:~)
