Standard Deviation on chart

George Wilson

I am currently using Excel 2000 on a windows 2000 system.
I am currently using a standard line graph chart and I
have a standard deviation calculation I would like to have
show up on the chart. There does not seem to be any way
automaticaly have this value inserted into the chart. I
have tried a macro but the copy and paste feature does not
seem to want to work in a text box placed inside the
chart. Is there any way to have the standard deviation
show within the chart and also have it update as the
standard deviation changes? Any helpful suggestions will
be appreciated.
TIA
George

George -

How do you want to display it? As a text string showing the value? As
error bars on the points?

A text string placed on the chart kinda like a label, but
it needs to update whith the data on the chart.

Okay, suppose your SD is in cell A1. You can make the label nicer by
putting a formula like this in cell B1:

="Standard Deviation = "&TEXT(A1,"0.00")

Replace the "0.00" with an appropriate number format for the data.
Select the chart, press the equals key, and mouse click on cell B1. This
gives you a linked textbox in the chart. Format the textbox and move it
where you want it.
